Teacups & Baubles

Teacups from my favorite vintage-chic online retailer
Life lately has been a series of juxtaposed moments. From attending a funeral and wedding ceremony in the same day, to feeling so far yet so close to our loving Creator. January was a month of contrasting highs and lows, to say the least. In college I felt I learned and gained new insights everyday about a variety of topics. Now, two years post-college, God has pressed the "hold" button on those constant new experiences, and has been encouraging me to wholeheartedly focus on the basic foundations of life: faith and friendships. I've seen God's hand slowly yet tightly knit together those two things for me and it's been a gradual and beautiful process to witness.

These past few months I took advantage of the holidays and took a break from the boutique (though my busybody mindset did keep me active on Poshmark). Now, I'm back in the game with a handful of new items in the shop (see below). I'm also working on a complete re-brand of my boutique, which may even bring on new name. . . . Something that I have been thinking about and preparing for months. Below are a few snapshots that display my new love for the VSO cam app and white background photography. I can't help it, I'm addicted.

The Rewards of Friendship

Friendship has been on my mind lately. Both how to be a quality friend and what I need in a friend. I wrote this short devotional for the conference I attended a few weeks back and was grateful that I did. Though I had written this mainly for teens, it allowed me a time to dive into the true meaning of friendship and why we thrive off of solid relationships. Given what has been on my heart this week, I thought it was appropriate to revisit the truth Scripture shares with us about simply being a good friend.

Do you ever find yourself disappointed by friends? There have been plenty of times when I’ve letdown a friend, even when I didn’t intend to. Inevitably, there are risks involved in every relationship—even Jesus was betrayed by His closest friends during His deepest time of need (Mark 14:1–51 NIV).

Still, Jesus selflessly responded to betrayal by washing his disciples’ feet, a humble act usually performed by servants (John 13:2–5). He knew that His disciple Judas would eventually play a part in His death, but continued to cleanse Judas’ feet as a symbol of loving service. Jesus also predicted Peter’s denial of their relationship (Matthew 26:69–74), but confidently forgave the rejection in spite of the hurt.

Scripture tells us there are certain characteristics to look for in a friend: someone who is loyal (Proverbs 17:17), truthful (Proverbs 27:5–6, 9) and encourages you to be your best (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10). Before holding others to these standards, can you confidently say you display these characteristics as well? Consistently striving to be a true friend will lead to the fruitful and deep relationships God intends for us to have (Psalm 133:1).

Indeed, sincere friends are hard to come by (Proverbs 20:6). But if we’re willing to follow Jesus’ lead and also seek out godly friends, the rewards of fellowship will always outweigh the risks.

Thought for the Day: How will my relationships grow when I choose to serve and love my friends as Jesus did?

Just Because You're You

There have been several times this month that I've wanted to make or give something to a friend simply because they mean so much to me, and deserve a "just because" gift every now and then.

My current favorite is {DIY sharpie dishware.} I blogged about my own experience decorating a plate, and have since made another one for a cupcake-loving friend.

{A single cupcake} Need I say more? Sweets are typically the way to any sane human's heart. My coworker brought me an extra treat from her Oscar's party. A "Life of Pi" cupcake. Genius!

{An inexpensive care package} This can be items pulled from the dollar store so long as they have a personal touch that you know the receiver will find joy in. Below is a sample of one I put together for a newlywed friend's honeymoon, but the same idea can be applied to any occasion!

And last but not least, a simple card will do. My favorites are by Papyrus. There is something about a beautiful and hand written note that makes life prettier, don't you think?

What ideas do you have for sharing the love and letting someone know you care in your everyday life?
